Monday, 27 November 2006
Join the Hands Off Venezuela campaign on Saturday, December 2nd, 11am and fill up your tank at the CITGO station at Grand & Page Avenue in St. Louis. Come build solidaritywith the revolutionary people of Venezuela and help empower working people here in the United States!

Why Buy Gas From CITGO?

The CITGO company is the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA. By purchasing gas at CITGO you can help support the various assistance programs the company is providing poor Americans - something no U.S.-owned company is doing! After Hurricane Katrina, CITGO refineries on the Gulf Coast opened their doors to some 5,000 people seeking shelter, while U.S.-owned refineries kept people out. Venezuela, under the progressive leadership of President Hugo Chavez, immediately offered to send doctors, water purifiers, generators, and other emergency supplies as well as $1 million in aid. Much of this aid was refused - while the U.S. government abandoned tens of thousands of mostly black Americans to their fate.

                                           CITGO Facts

* The CITGO-Venezuela heating oil program will deliver more than 25 million gallons of fuel, at a 40 percent discount, to more than 100,000 needy households in the New York City area alone. The company will devote 5 percent of the delivery volume free of charge to homeless shelters during the heating season.

* Nationally, the program is targeting more than 100 million gallons to more than 400,000 households in 16 states, more than doubling the commitment made last year.

* The company recently gave $400,000 to help kick-start a new health clinic at Little Village Lawndale High School on Chicago's southwest side.
There are over 30 stations selling CITGO gas in the St. Louis area. For more info please contact the Hands Off Venezuela campaign.
